Picasso Baby

Jay-Z performs 'Picasso Baby' for 6 straight hours al Pace Gallery in New York. Jay-Z has rapping down to an art, and to prove it, he spent six hours as a fixture in a New York City gallery.
Jay-Z apparently took time to interact with the audience, bringing in several members of the crowd to dance with him. At one point Jay-Z circled around famed performance artist Marina Abramovic. Amazement! The event seems to be inspired by their famous performance "The Artist is Present" of Abramovic (MoMa, New York - 2010).
The footage from the event will presumably be incorporated into a music video for the single.

Stupore generale! L'evento pare proprio ispirarsi alla famosa performance "The artist is presente" della Abramovic (MoMa, New York - 2010).

Andy Warhol, Who/What/Where

CHI/WHO: Andy Warhol
COSA/WHAT: Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn) - 1967
DOVE/WHERE: The Museum of Modern Art, MoMa, New York
For Marilyn, Warhol created ten highly variable portraits, exploiting the possibilities in screenprinting for shifting colors and off-register effects. By celebrating the seemingly impervious veneer of glamour and fame of Marilyn , but acknowledging its darker inner complexity, these prints reveal Warhol's subtle grasp of American culture.

Robert Motherwell

The main exhibition of the summer at Guggenheim Collection is dedicated entirely to what Robert Motherwell  defined "the greatest of our artistic discoveries", the techinique of papier collè. The exhibition at Guggenheim Collection after Venice will travels overseas to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. It comprises about 50 works, mainly from private collections and made between 1941 and 1951. The works pay tribute not only to the abstract figures that made Motherwell the original spokesman for American art in the post-War years and one of the greatest interpreters of American abstract Expressionism, but also to Peggy Guggenheim, who was his patron and supporter. It was Peggy Motherwell to encourage him the use collage technique.

Who/What/Where

CHI/WHO: Renè Magritte
COSA/WHAT: Gli amanti/ The Lovers/ Les amantes (1928)
DOVE/WHERE: MOMA, New York

Frustrated desires are a common theme in René Magritte’s work. Here, a barrier of fabric prevents the intimate embrace between two lovers, transforming an act of passion into one of isolation and frustration. Some have interpreted this work as a depiction of the inability to fully unveil the true nature of even our most intimate companions.

CHI/WHO: Edward Hopper
COSA/WHAT: ght at Two Lights, 1927
Watercolor and graphite on paper, 13 15/16 × 20 in. (35.4 × 50.8 cm).
DOVE/WHERE: Whitney Museum of American Art, New York

Edward Hopper was inspired by the light and architecture of the modern American city and the everyday things that he saw in the places he visited, such as restaurants, offices, gas stations, movie theaters, and hotels. Hopper made sketches of actual sites but most of his compositions were created in the studio. His works create a sense of loneliness that he felt was part of life in the United States.
Hopper painted in his spare time, but his work did not sell. In 1920, before he received any major recognition, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney gave Hopper his first one-artist exhibition at the Whitney Studio Club.

www.Jasper Johns

Starting today a new feature, "who, what, where - www".
A path to know an artist, his work and the place where it can be admired.
Today I start to talk with Jasper Jones.
Jasper Johns has made paintings of ordinary objects and symbols such as flags, maps, numbers, and the alphabet. He was interested in how their meaning might change when they are taken out of their usual role or place. Here, Johns transformed the way we usually see a flag. Instead of painting a picture of a flag flying from a pole and blowing in the breeze, the flat pattern of stars and stripes is portrayed on three different-sized canvases. By showing the flag in this way, Johns asks us to take a new look at an everyday object and to question what we see.
