Il filantropo e magnate dei cosmetici Leonard Lauder ha annunciato che donerà la sua collezione di opere d'arte cubiste al Metropolitan Museum of Art. La collezione è valutata da Forbes un miliardo di dollari e le opere di cui ne ganno parte sono: 33 di Pablo Picasso, 17 di Georges Braque e 14 di Juan Gris e Fernand Léger.
Il Metropolitan ha annunciato che, in concomitanza con il regalo di Lauder, sarà anche fondato un nuovo centro di ricerca per l'arte moderna con una dotazione di 22 milioni dollari donati da Lauder e altri donatori del museo.
Leonard Lauder è il presidente emerito della  Estée Lauder ma è anche il maggiore collezionista d'arte, ma la sua attenzione si è concentrata, piuttosto che nelle opere di artisti americani, nei maestri del cubismo, ma ha anche collezionato opere di Klimt. La maggior parte delle sue opere proviene da alcune delle collezioni più celebri al mondo, tra cui quelli di Gertrude Stein, del banchiere svizzero Raoul La Roche e lo storico dell'arte britannico Douglas Cooper.

Philanthropist and cosmetics tycoon Leonard Lauder has announced that he will be donating his collection of Cubist artwork to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The collection is estimated by Forbes to be worth one billion dollars, and the works that are part of it are: 33 works by Pablo Picasso, 17 by Georges Braque, and 14 both by Juan Gris and by Fernand Léger.
The Metropolitan announced that, in conjunction with Lauder’s gift, it will also found a new research center for modern art using a $22 million endowment supported by Lauder as well as other patrons of the museum.
Leonard Lauder is the chairman emeritus of The Estée Lauder Companies but is also a major art collector, but his particular focus, rather than on American artists, is on works by the Cubist masters, but he also collects Klimt. Much of his art comes from some of the world’s most celebrated collections, including those of Gertrude Stein, the Swiss banker Raoul La Roche, and the British art historian Douglas Cooper.
