Alphonse Mucha

Alfons Maria Mucha (1860 –1939), often known in English and French as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist, known best for his distinct style. He produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs.

Mucha produced a flurry of paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewelry, carpets, wallpaper. The Mucha Style became known as Art Nouveau. Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing, vaguely Neoclassical-looking robes, often surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed halos behind their heads. In contrast with contemporary poster makers he used pale pastel colors.

His Art Nouveau style was often imitated. These posters have for me something vaguely familiar, as they are so famous that all of us have seen them at least once and seem to be part of our collective imagination of the early '900.

Mucha ha prodotto una serie di dipinti, manifesti, pubblicità e illustrazioni per libri, così come disegni per gioielli, tappeti, carta da parati. Lo Stile Mucha, divenne noto come Art Nouveau. Nelle opere di Mucha sono spesso presenti giovani belle donne sinuose,con abiti vagamente neoclassici, spesso circondate da fiori rigogliosi, che a volte formano aloni dietro le loro teste. In contrasto con i produttori di manifesti a lui contemporanei che usavano colori pastello chiari. Il suo stile Art Nouveau è stato spesso imitato. Questi manifesti hanno per me qualche cosa di vagamente familiare, poichè sono talmente famosi che tutti noi li abbiamo visti almeno una volta e sembrano far parte del nostro immaginario collettivo dei primi del '900.
