The Turin Book Fair opens with the
inauguration of the exhibition 'Il Cavalier Calabrese Mattia Preti. Between
Caravaggio and Luca Giordano ' (Reggia della Venaria) and will display over 40
works from prestigious public and private collections. The exhibition showcases
the work of Mattia Preti, but also by Caravaggio and Luca Giordano documenting
sources, the influences of the original painting research baroque Preti. And
yet, the works of his contemporaries such as Manfredi, Le Valentin, Ribera, Lanfranco,
Guercino and Mola.
To open the exhibition will be one of the most famous works by Caravaggio: Rest on the Flight into Egypt, from the Galleria Doria Pamphili in Rome, dating to 1595-1596, an early work created by the artist recently arrived in Rome, of extraordinary novelty and inventive quality, containing the 'naturalism' that such influence on later painting.
