If there is one word to sum up the illustrations of Jay Fleck, it would have to be “fun”. His colorful works seem to draw from the inspiring world of childhood, creating fantasies filled with octopus, pirates, rocket ships and elephants. The atmosphere of his works are fun but at the same time ironic and his work is done in a perfect manner using graphical techniques.

Le sue opere colorate sembrano trarre ispirazione dal mondo dell'infanzia, creando fantasie piene di polpi, pirati, navi ed elefanti. Le atmosfere delle sue opere sono divertenti ma allo stesso tempo ironiche e le sue opere sono realizzate utilizzando in modo perfetto le tecniche grafiche.

"Sono sempre stato attratto da immagini surreali. Credo che la fotografia sia un mezzo che conferisce una sorta di realismo a queste" fantasie ", permettendo così di porsi in una più stretta relazione con lo spettatore. Mi piace che suggerisca la possibilità di una verità impercettibile. Il subacqueo sembrava il logico passo nella ricerca di un equilibrio tra il mondo surreale e la mia realtà.

I have always been attracted to surreal imagery. I believe that photography as a medium lends a kind of realism to these ‘fantasies’, allowing it to exist in closer relationship to the viewer. I like that it suggests the possibility of an indiscernible truth. Shooting underwater seemed like the logical next step in finding a balance between the surreal world and my own reality.
