Maramotti Collection:
The history, and the paintings, evoked by van Ofen in these new canvases relates to the analogies that have linked Germany and Italy during the second half of the 19^th century, namely to the parallelism between the two countries in their process of nation building. In the works of Germania und Italia, the artist draws on both German and Italian 19^th century pictures or their contemporary reproductions. The historical images evolve into ghostly structures where characters and objects are transcribed as shapes and colours, as geometry and gesture, as space and imagination.

Collezione Maramotti:
La storia che van Ofen evoca in questi nuovi quadri è quella dei legami e delle analogie che hanno accomunato Germania e Italia; o meglio, del parallelismo che ha accompagnato i due paesi durante la seconda metà dell'Ottocento nel loro processo di formazione nazionale. Nelle opere che costituiscono Germania und Italia, l'artista si rifà a quadri dell'Ottocento tedeschi e italiani o a riproduzioni d'epoca di tali quadri. Il quadro storico si trasforma in una struttura fantasmica, in cui personaggi e oggetti vengono trascritti come forma e colore, come geometria e gesto, come spazio e immaginazione.

The work of Beatrice Pediconi is charged with mystery and amazement, and the gesture she performs is no less capable of generation than attuned to capturing and accepting the unexpected: advance and retreat, action and perception.
Her work bears witness to the possibility of another form of painting: painting that “mutates” not on the canvas, but in water, and with results that the artist can only partly control.
The new work now realized for the Maramotti Collection is entitled 9’/ Unlimited and presents still further developments. In addition to accepting the challenge of polaroid photography and large-scale images taken with a Large Format View Camera in the course of a true and proper performative process that devolves on a spirit of alchemy and its potential photographic registration, the artist has also created an environment, a space that becomes a vessel which the visitor is invited to enter.


C’è mistero e stupore nell’opera di Beatrice Pediconi, e nel suo gesto capacità generatrice e attitudine ad accogliere l’imprevisto: avanzare e ritirarsi, agire e percepire.
Un’evidenza di come sia possibile fare un altro tipo di pittura, pittura “mutante” non sulla tela, ma nell’acqua, con esiti solo parzialmente controllabili dall’artista.
Il nuovo lavoro realizzato per la Collezione Maramotti dal titolo 9’/ Unlimited costituisce un ulteriore sviluppo in cui l’artista si misura non soltanto con l’uso della polaroid o con scatti di grande formato realizzati con banco ottico durante un vero e proprio processo performativo di sapore alchemico e il suo potenziale congelamento fotografico, ma realizza un ambiente, un luogo che diviene una sorta di navicella che accoglie il visitatore.
