 La Sala degli Stucchi dell'Excelsior, set della cena tra De Niro e McGovern in “C'era una volta in America”

Recently, It happened to me to visit the Excelsior Hotel in Venice. I could not stop admiring the Sala degli Stucchi, where was filmed the legendary dance scene between Robert De Niro and Elizabeth McGovern from the film "Once Upon a Time in America" by Sergio Leone (1984).
The Excelsior is the Moorish style architectural masterpiece that hosted, in 1932, on its terrace, right in front of the Lido di Venezia beach, projections of the first International Art Exhibition in the Venice Film Festival in 1932, and every year it continues to host actors and directors, moreover a presentation and an interview of the Film Festival. Sergio Leone has forever immortalized the beauty of the Salone degli Stucchi, which looks like a wonderful restaurant, booked by Robert De Niro just to allow Elizabeth McGovern to choose the table that she more likes and he takes her in ball-room for a sweet dance, and then lay down on the beach of the hotel.

Recentemente mi è capitato di visitare l'Hotel Excelsior di Venezia. Non potevo non fermarmi ad ammirare la Sala degli Stucchi, dove è stata girata la mitica scena da ballo tra Robert De Niro e Elizabeth McGovern del film "C’era una volta in America" di Sergio Leone (1984).
L'Excelsior è il capolavoro architettonico in stile moresco che ha ospitato, nel 1932, sulla sua terrazza sulla spiaggia del Lido di Venezia le proiezioni della prima Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia nel 1932, e continua ad ospitare ogni anno gli attori e i registi tra una presentazione e un'intervista della Mostra del Cinema. Sergio Leone ha immortalato per sempre la bellezza del Salone degli Stucchi, che appare come un ristorante meraviglioso e vuoto, prenotato da Robert De Niro per permettere a Elizabeth McGovern di scegliere il tavolo che più le piace e trasportarla in quello stesso salone per un ballo solitario e dolcissimo, per poi stendersi sulla spiaggia dell’albergo.
